Nick Hoffman turns surprise Modified start at VMS into $10,000 victory
Nick Hoffman made a mid-week decision to compete in the Modified ranks over the weekend and it paid off with a $10,000 payday. He pulled off a late-race victory on Saturday night at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway aboard the Jerry Foster Racing / ABC Supply / NOS Energy Drink No. 5 CertainTeed / Elite Chassis Modified.
Despite the limited reps, Nick found his groove as the race went on and claimed his fourth win of the season.
"Yeah it was really good," Hoffman said. "I wasn't very comfortable all night, I just kind of felt off a little bit. I wasn't sure if it was me or the race car, but I kept adjusting to it and it paid off. Big thanks to Jerry Foster, all of our sponsors and my crew guys. It was definitely a team effort."
With the Tye Twarog Motorsports No. 9 Late Model parked for the weekend, Nick Hoffman made a guest appearance aboard the Jerry Foster-owned No. 5 Modified on Saturday evening at Virginia Motor Speedway (Jamaica, Va.) for the third annual Mark Batten Memorial.
Against a field of 37 DIRTcar Modified Mafia Tour entries, Hoffman backed up the fastest qualifying effort in his group with a heat race victory. Taking the green in third for the main event, Nick tracked down Cole Falloway on lap 36 of the feature and led the final five circuits to claim his fourth win of the season and the $10,000 top prize. He finished 1.737 seconds ahead of Falloway with Ray Kable, Michael Altobelli, and Austin Holcombe rounding out the Top-5.

Hoffman now turns his attention to the famed Eldora Speedway this week. Action kicks off on Wednesday with the second round of the Castrol FloRacing Night in America tour with a $20,000 payday up for grabs. On Thursday, the 30th annual Dirt Late Model Dreams takes center stage with two days of $25,000-to-win prelims leading up to Saturday night's $100,030-to-win finale.
