Iron-Man Late Model Series

Hoffman Stops Rice with Summer Shootout Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series Win at Atomic Speedway

WAVERLY, OHIO (July 22, 2023)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series would make its first visit of the 2023 season to Atomic Speedway in Waverly, OH for the track’s Summer Shootout event and Nick Hoffman of Mooresville, NC would lead all forty laps on his way to the $7,500 payday and stop Josh Rice’s four-race winning streak with the series.

Hoffman, a 31-year-old second generation racer, would score his first career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series and would become the fourth driver in series history to win with the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series and Brucebilt Performance Parts Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series. Hoffman would go to victory lane in a Longhorn Chassis powered by a Clements Race Engine with sponsorship from NOS Energy, C&W Trucking, Petroff Towing, Tye Twarog Performance, Bilstein, and Allgaier Performance Parts.

The drop of the green flag on forty-lap, $7,500 to win Valvoline A-Main event would see Nick Hoffman take the lead, followed by R.J. Conley, Josh Rice, Tyler Carpenter, and Jesse Wisecarver. While Hoffman maintained the lead, Conley and Rice would trade sliders on laps three and four, before Conley would control the second spot by lap five, with Wisecarver taking fourth from Carpenter on lap five as well. Hoffman would begin to work slower traffic on lap seven, with Carpenter reclaiming the fourth position on the same circuit. Hoffman would continue to pull away a bit as he worked slower traffic, while Rice would pressure Conley for second and would take the spot on lap twelve. Rice would close in on Hoffman and would pull alongside Hoffman on lap fifteen but could not complete the pass, while Clint Keenan would make his way into the top five on lap seventeen as he would drive past Wisecarver. The first caution of the event would wave on lap twenty-five when third-place running R.J. Conley would spin in turn two. The restart would see Hoffman, Rice, and Keenan first through third, while Wisecarver would take fourth from Carpenter, with Rod Conley working past Carpenter for fifth one circuit later. Hoffman would catch traffic again on lap thirty-two, however, the caution would appear when fourth-place running Wisecarver would roll to a stop on the backchute, with his night ended and during the caution, third-place running Keenan would pull to the infield and be finished for the event. The restart would not see a full lap complete before Travis Carr would spin in turn four. The restart would see Hoffman and Rice remain first and second, with Rod Conley now third, followed by Doug Drown and Zack Dohm. The final caution would wave on lap thirty-six when third place running Rod Conley would slow on the frontchute with a flat right-rear tire. Hoffman would maintain the lead on the restart and would lead the remainder of the way to claim the victory, with Rice finishing second and Drown finishing third. Dohm and Seth Daniels would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Andy Bond, R.J. Conley, Kirk Phillips, Rod Conley, and Jerry Bowersock.

The next events for the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Northern Series will be Friday August 4 at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY and Saturday August 5 at Atomic Speedway in Waverly, OH, with both events paying $7,500 to win and $500 to start.
