Nick Hoffman competes in first-career Topless 100

After seeing Thursday night’s opening round rained out, Nick Hoffman finally entered his first-career COMP Cams Topless 100 weekend on Friday night at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Ark.). The event, which was co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) and COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS), drew a field of 47 entries to Mooney Starr’s 3/8-mile oval. Nick won his heat race to earn the fourth-starting spot for the 30-lap feature. Early in the $5,000-to-win affair, Hoffman slipped back in the running order before mounting a late-race charge. Despite only having one caution to bunch the field he recovered to finish third behind Jimmy Owens and Tim McCreadie.

“The race car has been really good. Talking to Scott about this weekend I just felt like this place would fit my driving style. We drive a lot alike. He has won a lot of races here. At the beginning, I kind of faded a little bit. A lot of it was me just not being aggressive enough at the beginning and then I got rolling at the end. We were really good.”

Via his Friday night performance, Nick started third in Saturday night’s 100-lap, $40,000-to-win finale. He was running sixth in the crown jewel feature before a mechanical failure sidelined him early to a 25th-place finish.
